Through pyrolysis plant, waste plastics, waste tires, waste rubber and waste oil sludge can be decomposed into pyrolysis oil, which is similar to diesel oil in many properties, and it can be used as an alternative fuel for a wide range of industrial applications. But what is the difference between pyrolysis oil and diesel oil? Next, we will compare pyrolysis oil and diesel oil in terms of their chemical composition, performance and applications.
What is the difference between pyrolysis oil and diesel oil?
1. Chemical composition
Pyrolysis oil contains a large number of unsaturated compounds such as diolefins and aromatic hydrocarbons, resulting in a dark brown color and sticky polymer precipitates when placed in the air. The main component of diesel oil is a mixture of complex hydrocarbons (with carbon atoms of about 10 to 22). The color is yellow.
2. Performance
Calorific value refers to the heat given off by the complete combustion of a unit mass (or volume) of fuel, and is an important indicator of the quality of the fuel. The calorific value of pyrolysis oil is 44.32MJ/kg, which is slightly lower than that of diesel oil.
Regarding viscosity, the higher the viscosity, the higher the fuel consumption, engine temperature and engine load. The viscosity of pyrolysis oil is 3.56mm2/s, which is slightly lower than that of diesel oil.
In terms of density, the oil with high density may not burn sufficiently, and the oil with low density will consume more fuel, which may cause damage to the engine. The density of pyrolysis oil is 0.91g/cm2, which is slightly higher than diesel oil. The following is the test report of SGS on DOING tire pyrolysis oil for reference.
3. Applications
Pyrolysis oil is widely used as industrial fuel in industrial plants such as steel plants, cement plants, boilers, heavy oil generators to replace furnace oil or industrial diesel oil.
Diesel oil is mainly used as liquid fuel for diesel engine, which is widely used in large vehicles, railroad locomotives and ships, and some small cars and even high performance cars also change to diesel oil.
In addition, pyrolysis oil can also be refined by waste oil refining plant to produce diesel oil, which can then be used in more applications.
It can be seen that pyrolysis oil is more similar to diesel oil. Converting waste plastics, waste tires, waste rubber and waste oil sludge into pyrolysis oil through pyrolysis plant is a very valuable way to recover resources, which not only can reduce environmental pollution, but also can alleviate energy shortage to a certain extent. Doing Group is a world leading manufacturer of pyrolysis plant and waste oil refining plant with more than ten years of experience.
